Lately, I've been feeling insignificant and pretty much worthless. I love being a Mom, but sometimes, just staying home all day leaves me feeling like I'm not contributing to our family. On occasion, I get the house clean before Marcus gets home, but not very often. Anyway, this post isn't a pity party or anything, you just need to have a little background to why I wanted to share this next part.
In our effort to be a little better, we've been studying conference talks as a couple before bed. On one day that I was feeling particularly worthless, we read We Are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father by Elaine S. Dalton. At first, we both kind of voiced our opinions that this wasn't going to apply to us. We don't have daughters who are close to being in Young Womens. I almost suggested to skip it, but really wanted to read all the talks from conference. So, we began. We got to the part that reads,
"Our daily contributions of nurturing, teaching, and caring for others may seem mundane, diminished, difficult, and demeaning at times, and yet as we remember that first line in the Young Women theme - "We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us." - it will make all the difference in our relationships and our responses."
This really stuck out to me. What I do IS important! We kept reading and got to:
"We must never lose sight of the strength of the women. ... It is mothers who most directly affect the lives of their children. ... It is mothers who nurture them and bring them up in the ways of the Lord. Their influence is paramount. ...
They are the creators of life. They are the nurturers of children. They are the teachers of young women. They are our indispenable companions. They are our co-workers in building the kingdom of God. How great is their role, how marvelous their contribution."
It is amazing that Heavenly Father knows what we need to hear, and presents it to us when we need it most. Staying home and raising these two beautiful spirits is what is most important, and I'm glad that I get to do it. We may not have all the money in the world, but my children are being raised by me, not a stranger.
